How I Met Your Mother - The Dead Mother Theory

A cuatro escasos capítulos para el esperado final de How I Met Your Mother -  no solo por la intriga de una series finale como esta sino porque estamos todos ya un poquito cansados de la serie -, Internet está que trina con teorías conspiradoras acerca de qué va a pasar. La más increíble de todas y quizás la que tenga más sustento es... The Dead Mother Theory.

With only four episodes left for the wanted finale of How I Met Your Mother - not only because of the intrigue that a series like this generates but also because we are all hoping that it will end soon -, Internet is full of conspiracy theories about what is going to happen. The most unbelievable of them all and maybe the one that is more probable is... The Dead Mother Theory. 

Si, habéis oído bien. Dead Mother. ¿No os habéis preguntado nunca por qué "the mother" nunca ha intervenido en el larguísimo relato de Ted de cómo la conoció? No digo que aparezca en pantalla, sino que se le oiga o se le mencione en algún momento. ¿No habéis pensado nunca que la historia de cómo la conoció es bastante excesiva? ¿Y si fuera porque esos niños nunca llegaron a conocerla? ¿Y si ella muriera antes de que ellos tuvieran la edad suficiente?

Yes, you have heard it alright. Dead Mother. Haven't you ever wonder why the mother has never been in the loooong story that Ted tells his children? I don't mean her appearing on the screen, but maybe her voice or a reference to her... Haven't you ever wondered why this story is so long? What if it's because those kids never met their mother? What it she dies before they were old enough to know her?

Pues justo en esto se basa la teoría. Esta empezó a plantearse tras el episodio "Time Travelers" de la temporada pasada. Para los que no os acordeis, es aquel episodio deprimente en el que vemos a Ted con Barney, Ted y Barney del pasado y Ted y Barney del futuro solo para descubrir al final que realmente está Ted solo sentando en el McLaren's ya que todos sus amigos están siguiendo con sus vidas y sus parejas menos él.

This is the base of the theory. It started last season in the episode "Time travelers". For those of you that don't remember it, it's that depressing episode when we see Ted with Barney, Ted and Barney from the past and Ted and Barney from the future, just to end up discovering that Ted had been all this time long alone in the McLaren's since everyone was moving with their lives and their couples except him. 

El capítulo acaba con el Ted del futuro diciendo que le gustaría poder decirle a ese Ted que no se preocupe, que solo le quedan 45 días para conocerla, y que ojalá hubiera podido aprovechar esos 45 días más para compartirlos con "the mother". ¿Será porque el Ted del futuro ya no tiene a "the mother" del futuro?

The episode ended with the Ted from the future saying that he would like to tell that Ted not to worry, that in only 45 days he would meet her, and he wishes he had expect those 45 extra days with her. Is it because the Ted from the future doesn't have with him the mother?

Tras el capítulo de ayer, 9x19 "Vesuvius", esta teoría ha ganado muchos más adeptos. Algunos años en el futuro - pocos, Ted no tiene ni una canita todavía -, ella lanza al aire la pregunta de "¿qué clase de madre no iría a la boda de su hija?" sin darse cuenta de que eso hace a Ted ponerse a llorar como una magdalena. Ella lo consuela, pero se le ve bastante triste igualmente.

After yesterday's episode, S09E19 "Vesuvius", this theory has gained weight. Some years in the future - not many, just see the photos above" -, the mother says "what mother is going to miss her daughter's wedding?", which makes Ted cry. She tries to give him confort but you can see she's quite upset too. 

Y yo os pregunto, ¿qué le pasa a Ted? Obviamente no se refiere a la madre de Robin ni a la suya propia. ¿Se estará refiriendo a que es su propia mujer, The One, The Mother, la que no vivirá lo suficiente como para acudir a la boda de su hija? 

And I do wonder, what's up, Ted? Obviously he's not referring to Robin's mother nor his own. Does he mean that is his own wife, The One, The Mother, the one who won't live long enough to go to her daughter's wedding?

En cuanto al título también han surgido bastantes teorías, pero se teoriza que puede ser que estén haciéndonos creer que va a morir y sea mentira, ya que en un capítulo anterior de la temporada Ted está haciendo un crucigrama y dice "Vesuvius? Booyah! ... Oh wait, that doesn't fit". Y desde luego, que la madre muera después de todo esto, doesn't fit either. 

There have been many theories about the title, but it's believed that they are trying to make us believe that the mother dies and it's not true. It's based in the fact that a few episodes back in this season Ted is doing a crosswords and he says "Vesuvius? Booyah! ... Oh wait, that doesn't fit". And obviously, the mother dying after all this years, doesn't fit either at all. 

¿Se cumplirá esta teoría? Hasta dentro de unas semanas me temo que no tendremos respuesta, pero si os puedo decir que como sea cierta, es el peor final para una comedia que he visto en la vida. Tras 9 años esperando a que Ted encuentre a la mujer de su vida y viendo cómo pasa sufrimiento tras sufrimiento, esta se muere a los pocos años de conocerse y vuelve a estar solo. ¿How I Met Your Mother? ¿Quién dijo que fuese una comedia?

Is this theory right? Well, we won't known till a few weeks, but I can tell you that in the case it's true, it's the worst ending for a comedy that I have ever seen in my life. After 9 years waiting for Ted to find his Ms. Mosby and seeing him suffering every episode, he finally finds her and she dies a few years after, resulting on Ted ending up alone again. What the hell, How I Met Your Mother? Who said this was a comedy?
