Dexter - What the hell is going on?

Como sabéis, he estado ausente durante un par de semanas (bueno, casi todo julio y agosto, no os voy a engañar a estas alturas), pero ya me ha dado tiempo a ponerme al día con las dos series del momento, Breaking Bad y Dexter. Al igual que con cada capítulo de Breaking lo flipo y pienso que está cumpliendo todas mis expectativas, con Dexter... bueno.

As you already know, I've been out during a couple of weeks (well, almost all July and August, let's be honest), but I have already watched the two big series of the moment, Breaking Bad and Dexter. With Breaking I freak out with every episode, 'cause it's just awesome, but with Dexter... well, not exactly. 

Recordemos que ya lleva 8 temporadas, que está en las últimas. Con esta temporada, Showtime le pone el broche final al asesino en serie más querido de la televisión. Y el gran problema de esto es que la mayoría de las veces no consiguen cumplir con las expectativas de los fans. Y eso es lo que está pasando, al menos en parte.

We should remember that it's its 8th season, it's in the end. With this season, Showtime ends the story of the most beloved serial killer of tv. And the problem with this is that usually it doesn't meet the expectations of the fans. And that's what's happening, more or less. 

El principio de la temporada empezó bien, con la doctora Vogel que sabía demasiado de Dexter y un nuevo asesino en serie que podría traernos algo interesante con eso de la empatía, the Brain Surgeon. Pues bien, el misterio de Vogel no duró más que un capítulo, y pasó de ser un personaje interesante que podría ser una amenaza para Dex a ser una señora con pocos - o simplemente malos - valores morales que parece que quiere que su nuevo hijo pródigo tome con ella pastas inglesas a la hora del té mientras le cuenta a quién se ha cargado últimamente.

The beginning of the season was really cool, with Doctor Vogel who knew too much of Dex and a new serial killer who could bring something interesting to the series with the empathy, the Brain Surgeon. Well, Vogel's mystery died too soon, and she went from being a character who could be of some threat to Dex to a lady with few - or just bad - moral values who seems interested in having pastries at tea time with her new prodigal son while discussing his last killing. 

En cuanto al asesino de la temporada, no le ha dado qué pensar a Dexter en ningún momento. He echado en falta esos momentos de voz en off en los que Dex reflexiona y se le ve un poquito de humanidad. Dos capítulos después de cargárselo, resulta que es el hijo desaparecido de la doctora Vogel - esta vez de verdad - el que llevaba a cabo los asesinatos. ¿Y desde cuándo se equivoca Dex? Supongo que no es así, pero da la sensación de que se cargaron al Brain Surgeon para darse cuenta luego de que aún les quedaba la otra mitad de la temporada y que la habían cagado, así que vamos a ignorar que ya habían resuelto el caso sin dar ningún lugar a dudas. En fin.

The Brain Surgeon didn't make even a little threat to Dex this season. I've missed the classic off voice moments when Dex thinks about the killer and you can see in him a little bit of humanity. Two episodes after killing him, it turns out that the killer wasn't him, but Vogel's long lost son - this time the real one -. And since when does Dex mistake? I guess it is not like that, but it seems that they killed the Brain Surgeon and then realized that they had already half of the season and nothing to tell, so they ignored that they had already solved perfectly and without doubt the case. Whatever. 

Otra cosa que me estaba gustando de la temporada era el chico Hamilton, el nuevo aprendiz de Dexter. Parecía más bien como el hijo que nunca tuvo - porque Harrison tiene demasiada cara de bueno como para eso -. Genial la escena en el coche con Hannah y él, en el que parecen la perfecta familia - asesina - feliz. Una lástima que haya durado poco y que se lo haya cargado el Brain Surgeon de verdad, ahora que Dex le iba a comprar su primer juguete...

Another thing that I liked about this season was the appearance of young Hamilton, the new aprendiz of Dexter. He seemed the son that Dexter never had - since Harrison seems to good to end like that -. I loved the scene the two of them and Hannah in the car, it seemed as a perfect happy - killer - family. What a pity he didn't last, killed by the real Brain Surgeon, now that Dex was going to buy him his first toy...

La aparición de Hannah no me ha gustado nada. Al igual que me encantó el papel que hizo en la temporada pasada, me ha parecido bastante forzado cómo ha entrado esta vez. El tema del marido me ha parecido innecesario, y la forma en la que se ha vuelto a colar Dex exagerada. Pero en fin, supongo que el motivo principal es darle un final a Dex... ¿Argentina? Aunque sinceramente espero que nos estén dando sólo falsas esperanzas, ya que Dex no creo que vaya a tener un final feliz.

I really didn't like Hannah's appearance. Last year, her role was great. But this one... the whole matter with her husband... I mean, it really didn't stick. Dex being again really in love with her and she wanting to go back with the guy that rat her on... Well, I don't buy it, all too abrupt. I think the main reason they did this is to give Dex a happy ending, maybe Argentina. But let's be honest, I hope it's just false expectations what they are giving to us, since it's impossible that Dex ends well. 

Ahora mismo lo único que queda para el final supuestamente es que se cargue al hijo de la doctora Vogel y que coja un avión para Argentina. Obviamente algo saldrá mal. O eso espero, porque esta temporada está siendo un poco flojita de emoción.

Right now the only thing left to the ending is that Dexter kills Vogel's son and fly away to Argentina. Of course something is going to go wrong. Or that I hope, since this season has being much exciting till now.
