Finally! After months waiting, the eight season of Dexter has began. For those of you that have forgotten it, the seventh season ended with Deb killing LaGuerta to protect Dexter. And for what we've been able to see in the promos, she's not doing that well with her new role. Have you watched the episode? Well, keep reading!
A beautiful day. Así es desde luego como empieza el primer capítulo de la octava temporada. A Dex le va genial. Ha entrenado el equipo de Harrison, ha vuelto a su querido hobbie, ha reunido al equipo de bolos y encima se ha echado alguna novieta. Pero claro, eso es sólo el primer minuto del capítulo.
A beautiful day. Or at least that's how it starts. Dex is doing great. He has trained Harrison's team, gone back with his hobbie, gone bowling and even had a few friends. But of course, this is only the first minute of the episode.
Deb está perdida. O al menos eso es lo que opina Dexter. Empieza el capítulo con la inauguración de un banco en honor a LaGuerta (bastante feo, la verdad), y Deb es la única que falta al evento. Está muy ocupada drogándose con el sujeto que debería estar deteniendo - y lo que no es drogándose -, justificándose diciendo que está haciendo su trabajo.
Deb is lost. Or that's what Dexter thinks. The episode begins with a memorial to LaGuerta, where they have built a bench (quite ugly, by the way) in her honor, and Deb's the only one who misses the event. She is very busy getting high with they guy she's supposed to arrest - and not only doing drugs with him -, justifying herself by saying she's doing her job.
Dexter, para variar, está preocupado por su querida hermana. Y tanto preocuparse por la familia que se olvida de la parte más importante y vulnerable: Harrison, que se queda solo en el coche mientras él se carga al noviete de Deb. Muy de premio al padre del año. Debra no lo quiere cerca, y quizás sea mejor que le haga caso, porque ella no parece muy dispuesta a retomar la bonita relación de hermanos.
Dexter, as always, is worried about his beloved sis'. And he's so worried about his family that he forgets the most important and vulnerable part of it: Harrison, who is left alone in the car while his father is killing Deb's new boyfriend - have I seen this situation before? -. The scene was very father of the year style. Debra doesn't want Dexter around, and maybe he should listen to her, 'cause she is not willing to have the beautiful siblings' relationship they had.
"I shot the wrong person in that trailer"Dexter está perdiendo el control. Nos lo deja claro al pararse en mitad de la carretera e intentar ahogar a un conductor hasta que ve que el hijo está sentado en el asiento trasero. Los enfados con Harrison, asaltarle de esta manera a plena luz del día a la doctora Vogel o contestarle de malas maneras a Batista son solo otra muestra de que Dex empieza a sufrir los efectos colaterales de ser un asesino en serie. Ya no es tan beautiful day, ¿verdad?
Dex is losing control. You can tell when he stops in the middle of the road and tries to asphyxiate a driver till he finds out his son is seated in the back seat. The anger with Harrison, assaulting doctor Vogel in the middle of the day like that or his answer to Batista are just another example of it: Dex is staring to suffer the collateral effects of being a serial killer. Ain't no more a beautiful day, right?
Y en cuanto a Batista, esperemos que con la tontería de quedarse algún recuerdo de LaGuerta no encuentre algo que vaya hacerle sospechar a él también. Porque a diferencia de la otra, este sí me cae bien, y me daría mucha pena que Dex se lo tuviera que cargar también.
And about Batista, I hope the idea of keeping something for himself of LaGuerta doesn't make him find new clues in Dex's case and start suspecting him as well, 'cause I wouldn't like Dex to finish him, I really like this character!
¿Y qué me decís del nuevo personaje? La doctora Evelyn Vogel, neuropsiquiatra especializada en psicópatas. Qué casualidad. O no tanta, teniendo en cuenta cual será el verdadero objetivo por el que se encuentra en la Miami Metro Police. Decir que tiene un interés especial en Dex es quedarse corto. Obviamente sabe que él es el Bay Harbor Butcher, ¿pero cómo? ¿De dónde ha sacado los dibujos de Dexter cuando era pequeño? ¿Cómo conocía el código de Harry? ¿Sería amiga de él antes de irse a Inglaterra?
And what do you think about the new character? Doctor Evelyn Vogel, neuropsichiatric specialized in psychopaths. What a coincidence. Or not, taking into consideration the reason why she might have joined the Miami Metro Police. She obviously has a special interest in Dex, she know about the Bay Harbor Butcher, but how? Where did she get the drawings of Dexter when he was a kid? How did the know Harry's code? Was she a friend of his before leaving to England?
Y por último, el nuevo asesino de la temporada. Un psicópata que le extrae a sus víctimas (al menos a una) la parte del cerebro que procesa la empatía. Pinta bien, seguramente le dará a Dexter que pensar.
And lastly, we have the serial killer of the season, A psychopath that extracts from his victims' brain (or at least from one of them) the part of the brain that process empathy. Sounds great, I'm sure he will make Dex have some insight.
